Just White?

Today was my first day off after a heavy work-week in the air. It’s high season and everyone is going on their holiday. Me? I’m juggling renovation and a full-time job. And Daniel has two.. Jeezes! Welcome to Chaos.

rot

I had stops in Molde, Tromsø & Harstad this work period so Daniel painted the ceiling and repainted all the white walls while I was gone. It seems like the white walls were not so white after all.. I should have known, that there is nothing called just «white» in the interior world. Our old shade had some sort of yellow hint to it, eggwhite or whatever the correct term is. We wanted pure white walls, the problem with that was that every single thing in the apartment was just that.. eggwhite. The skirting, windowsill, the sockets, the doors and even the whole kitchen fronts were eggwhite. With the freshly pure white walls everything else seemed dirty and yellow. So I had to decide; repaint or redo.

renovation chaos

I have decided to paint the frames and windowsills shiny white. And I’m going to have a darker contrast color surrounding the kitchen fronts to make them more clean and white. I’m not quite sure what to do with the doors. We have 3, were one of them is the bathroom door that already has some water damage. So I think I might just replace them. We’ll see…

Tomorrow I’m doing my second coat on the contrast wall in the living room and Daniel is continuing on the floor. To be continued! 😀

Choosing Wood Flooring

Even though I love how big and bright the apartment looks with the white floor, I know it’s not going to last with our lifestyle. We want a pet eventually, I paint, Leo likes to drag his cars and toys all over the floors and I don’t want to worry about stripes and marks. I’ve bought some samples and it looks like we’re going with the shade that we wanted from the beginning.

We’re going for number 3. It’s not too white, and the structure is rough and more rustic.(Marks and wear is going to add to the charm, not become an annoyance.) I like the warmer shades, but I’ve never had light floors before and want the apartment to still look bright and clean.

These two pictures are exactly the same as sample number three, but as you can see the product photos come off completely different than the real deal. My advice to anyone who is looking to get their floors replaced is to quit wasting time online and go directly to the shops. I promise you will save yourself a lot of time and confusion.

I am really looking forward to get the roof and walls repainted, so we can get started on this! The floor really sets the tone and mood of the room. Right now we are ripping off skirtings, throwing out old wardrobes and prepping the rooms for paint!

Our New Apartment!

Today I’ve been together with Daniel for 3 years. It’s really odd, sometimes I feel like we meet yesterday and other days I feel like I’ve known him my whole life. For the last 6 months we have been looking around for apartments, I feel like we’ve been everywhere. Renting is expensive in Oslo and it feels like a waste of money even though we have really enjoyed our old flat. This summer we finally came across an apartment we could afford that meet our expectations. So we celebrated 3 years together by getting the keys to our new home today! It feels amazing, but at the same time it’s hard to grasp that I actually own my own place. It’s right in the city center and best of all.. it has a sunny garden!

The apartment is from 2008, so it is in good shape but needs a layer of paint. We went straight to the store and bought supplies and paint this evening. So we might just go all in and start tomorrow. I can’t wait to spend the next months nesting and coming up with cool ideas.

So if you’re looking for interior, renovation and DIY inspo, this is it!
